David Eugene Mathers, 69, of North Henderson, IL passed away at 1:02 pm, Sunday, August 4, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
David was born January 21, 1950 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Eugene Edward and Patricia Jean (Clark) Mathers. He was raised and educated in North Henderson and the Alexis School District, graduating from Alexis High School in 1968. He later attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL before returning home to work on the family farm which he did until his passing.
David married Rose Mary Taylor in Jacksonville, IL on August 28, 1971 and she survives.
He was a member of the North Henderson United Methodist Church and served on the board of Mt. Vernon Cemetery. He was also a Farm Bureau member for many years.
David was a man of few words but everyone enjoyed his witty banter and warm smile. He spoke volumes with a simple raise of his eyebrow. He loved riding his Harley, sailing, ocean beaches and vacationing with his family. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends
Survivors include his wife; 4 children, Melissa Mathers of San Francisco, CA, Molly Jensen of Manassas, VA, David Edward Mathers of North Henderson, IL and Katherine (John) Pierret of Manassas, VA; 4 grandchildren, Andrew Jensen, Matthew Jensen, Logan Pierret and Marcus Pierret; his mother, Patricia Mathers of Galesburg; sister, Elizabeth (David) Timmons of Hampton, IL; brother-in-law, Jay Brandenburg of Carlsbad, CA; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Laura Brandenburg.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, August 12, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson, IL. Visitation will be Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the North Henderson United Methodist Church, the Patriot Guard or Gift of Hope.
