Jasper D. Engle, Sr., 84, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 10:10 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his home.
He was born on June 16, 1935 in Medina Township, Peoria County, IL. Jasper was raised and educated in Smithfield, IL and later graduated from High School in Jay, OK in 1953.
Jasper served in the United States Army and achieved the rank of SPC.
He married Doris Daniels on August 16, 1972 in Galesburg, IL; she preceded him in death in November of 2001. He was previously married to Janet Morss of Monmouth.
Jasper worked at Maytag as a line operator in Galesburg for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, playing softball, and mushroom hunting. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Green Bay Packers fan. Jasper loved volunteering and helping the children at the Knox County Fishing Derby. Most of all, Jasper enjoyed being with his family.
Surviving Jasper are his children, Butch (Missy) Engle of Monmouth, IL, Tammy Miller of Seaton, IL, Lori Engle of Monmouth, IL, Pat Engle of Little York, IL, Pam Miller of St. James, MO; one step daughter, Rhonda (Bert) Pagel of Keokuk, IA; seventeen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Ray Engle and Ed Engle both of Peoria, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris Engle, one sister Florence, two brothers Ben Engle and Johnny Engle, and two great grandsons Christopher and Jamal Engle.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Warren County Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Memorials can be made to the Knox County Children’s Fishing Derby.
