A. Leroy Lantz

A. Leroy Lantz, 82, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 1:47 pm, Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth. IL

He was born July 7, 1936 in Brooklyn, IL, the son of Vernon K. and Verna (Diamond) Lantz.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1954.

Leroy married Joyce Hughes on February 14, 1956 in Little York, IL, and she passed away on June 25, 2017.

Leroy worked for Warren County Highway Department for 2 years before he started working for Local #649 Operating Engineers at Kistler Company in Monmouth for 33 years before retiring in 2000.  He also served as a City of Monmouth Alderman and Interim Mayor.

Leroy was a member of the First Christian Church of Monmouth where he was active in the Bible study, men’s group and the youth ministry. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors, woodworking, going to auctions, mowing the yard, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving Leroy is his two sons; Randy (Chris) Lantz of Monmouth, Jaime (Colleen) Lantz of Galesburg, IL, one daughter, Heidi Lantz of Monmouth, IL, three grandsons; Rawly (Joelle) Lantz, Nic (Ashlee) Lantz, Matt (Ali) Lantz, one granddaughter, Shannon (Kostya) Kekhaev, six great grandchildren; Sawyer Lantz, Beckett Lantz, Jakob Kekhaev, Lily Kekhaev, Hadley Lantz, and Lukas Kekhaev; his sister, Elaine Cady of Jacksonville, IL, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Donnie Lantz.

Celebration of Life services will be at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the First Christian Church, Monmouth.  Cremation has been accorded.  Interment of their ashes will be in Monmouth Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Youth Ministry at First Christian Church of Monmouth.
