Annabel (Nelson) Diamond

Annabel (Nelson) Diamond, 88, formerly of Hollywood, FL, died at 2:50 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

Annabel was born February 2, 1929 in Kirkwood, IL, the daughter of Carl Henry and Gertrude Lydia Mathilda (Brandt) Nelson. She was raised and educated in Kirkwood, graduating from Kirkwood High School. She later graduated from Augustana College in 1951 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree and received her Nurses Cap from the Moline Lutheran Hospital in 1951.

Annabel married Irving Diamond in Miami, FL on August 6, 1972, he died September 2007.

She was a nurse at the Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables, FL; Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL and other hospitals in Arizona, California and Hawaii.

She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Pembroke, Pines, FL and enjoyed collecting paintings of barns and glassware.

Survivors include her nephews, Michael L. (Sheila) Nelson of Viola, IL, Gil (Diane) Nelson and Tyler Nelson both of Baltimore, MD; nieces, Marla J.(John) Johnson of Avon, IL, Edith (Peter) Diamond- Band of DelRay Beach, FL, JoAnn (Sonny) Kline-Kneip, Pam Roberts and Kim (Joe) Bongiorno all of Baltimore, MD; great nieces and great nephews, Jon-Mychel (Sarah) Nelson of Geneseo, Julie (David) White of Normal, IL, Amelia (Justin) Rakestraw of Abingdon, IL, Cassandra (Eric) Weidmann of Columbia Heights, MN, Cindy Diamond of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Danny (Gayle) Diamond of Yardley, PA as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brothers, Lyle B. Nelson and Henry Nelson; niece, Debbie Nelson and nephew, Scott Nelson.

Cremation has been accorded with a private family service and interment at the Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Gardens to be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Augustana College Pre-Nursing Program or the Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Rock Island. McGuire and Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the local arrangements.
