Barbara J Conn

Barbara J. Conn, 98, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 7:31 a.m., Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth.

She was born on June 22, 1919 in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Linnie (Paul) Cline. Barbara was raised and educated in Rock Island, IL, and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1936. She then attended Brown Business College in Galesburg, IL.

Barbara married Dr. Harry O. Conn on February 11, 1942 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2000.

Barbara worked as a secretary at Midwest Manufacturing in Galesburg, Hamilton Soil Service in Viola, IL, and Randall Equipment in Burgess, IL. She was active in the OSF Auxiliary, DAR, New England Woman, Alexis Red Hat, Sunshine Girls, Burgess Presbyterian Church, YMCA, Election Judge in Mercer County, Mercer County Health Board, Alexis Woman’s Club, and was a member of Norwood Presbyterian Church. Barbara enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, reading, and going to coffee and lunch with friends at numerous cafes in Monmouth and Alexis. She loved her family and enjoyed getting together with all of them for any occasion. She loved giving little ones Hershey Kisses and sharing funny stories of the day. Barbara will be greatly missed by her family & friends.

Surviving Barbara are her children, Gary (Cindy) Conn of Lincoln, NE, Alice Conn of Sacramento, CA, Harry O. Conn, Jr., Powhattan, VA, Cynthia (Bob) Swanson of Baton Rouge, LA, and Susan Campbell of Monmouth, IL. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Barbara J. Conn and grandson, Jimmy Conn, and sister, Virginia Hinrichs.

Funeral Services will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 9, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Norwood Presbyterian Church, OSF Holy Family Medical Center or the OSF Holy Family Auxiliary.
