David L. Martin, 74, of Monmouth, IL, formerly of Logansport, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

David was born August 21, 1951, in Monmouth. He is the son of Francis “Polly” and Mabel Irene (Bennett) Martin. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1969.

David married the love of his life, Joyce K. Whitehall in Monmouth on October 3, 1970. She passed away on January 23, 2021.

After Highschool David enlisted into the United States Army in 1970. He began his basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. David served as a food inspector with United States Army during Vietnam, stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany until 1973. After his tour in Germany, he continued to serve his country in the National Guard until 1976.

David worked at Wilson Food Corporation in Monmouth for many years before beginning a meaningful career as a Juvenile Correctional Officer at the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility. A role in which he found great purpose and fulfillment until retirement.

David was a devote Catholic. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth. As well as All Saints Catholic Church in Logansport and The Knights of Columbus.

David was a loyal and fierce friend who made others a priority in his life. He loved every opportunity to celebrate, laugh, and create lasting memories with his friends and family. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bowling but most of all he cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was also an accomplished taco maker, a skill that brought smiles to many.

Survived by his son, Jason (Jennifer) Martin of Zanesville, IN. His daughter, Kay (Clay) Parker of West Lafayette, IN. His grandchildren, Shelby Parker, Derek Parker, Nolan Martin and Brock Martin. His sisters, Nancy Wooddell of Monmouth, Theresa Martin of Monmouth, Mary Hull of Bedford, TX and Paula (Joey) Howe of Monmouth. His son-in-law, Matt Helton. Sisters-in-law, Ginger Martin, Janet Hart, and Judy French. Brothers in law, Ronnie Miller, Mike Louck, and Steve (Sara) Whitehall. Several nieces and nephews, and dear friends, Perman and Sue Hoch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Julie Martin Helton, his brothers, Jack Martin and Richard Martin, and his sisters, Connie Miller and Judy Louck.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 pm, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, with a Rosary Service beginning at 4:30 p.m. An additional visitation will be held at Rans Funeral Home in Logansport, IN, on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 11:00-1:00 pm followed by a graveside committal service at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Church and sent to the funeral home.
