Donald W. Perrin, 85, of Monmouth, IL, died at 1:34 a.m., Monday, January 22, 2018 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
He was born January 24, 1932 in rural Seaton, IL the son of Kenneth Dodson and Dorothy Margaret (Lohse) Perrin. He attended 4 one room grade schools, Duck Creek, Brownlee, Old Number One and Bald Bluff. He graduated from Little York High School with the class of 1951.
Don married Winifred Agnes Roche on September 10, 1968 in Monmouth and she died of a malignant brain tumor on July 16, 1978. He later married Karen Yvonne Hensen Shook on June 3, 1988; they later divorced.
On February 11, 1952 Don was employed at the Second National Bank as a bookkeeper. He was promoted as Head Bookkeeper and then as a teller. The bank closed in 1964. On September 10, 1964 he began work as Head Teller at the Community National Bank in Monmouth. In March 1972 he was elected as Cashier of the bank and served this office for 25 years until his retirement on March 15, 1997. He was a part time bookkeeper for the Italian Village, Cerar’s Barnstormer and Petey’s Bar and Grill all in Monmouth. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.
Don served as Past President of the Monmouth Methodist Men, Past Grand Knight of the Monmouth Knights of Columbus having received all 4 degrees, where he served as a member of the Honor Guard. As a member of the Monmouth Kiwanis Club he served as the Club President, twice, Lieutenant Governor of the 19th Division of the Kiwanis Club from Oct. 1997 thru Sept. 1998. He was honored with the Kiwanis Hixon Fellow award and the AMADOR Award. He was a Charter Member of the Warren County Illinois Genealogical Society, serving as its first Treasurer. He also served as President of the Warren County Prime Beef Festival in 2012, a longtime volunteer with the OSF Holy Family Auxiliary, and the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2012.
Surviving Don are two sisters, Marilyn Perrin and Barbara Owens, both of Monmouth, IL; two brothers, Bob Perrin of Monmouth and Jerry (Sandy) Perrin of Eldridge, IA; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Raymond Perrin; and great uncle, Wilbur Perrin.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. A Rosary Service will be prior to the visitation at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Monmouth Knights of Columbus, ICS, Monmouth Kiwanis Club or the Warren Co. Genealogical Society.
