Edward E. Terpening, 85, of Alexis, IL passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
Ed was born November 12, 1939, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Donald and Corinne (Johnson) Terpening. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1958.
He served with the United States Air Force as a TSGT from 1962 to 1975 and was stationed in Vietnam in 1968.
Ed married Nina Coe in 1965 in Wisbech Cambs, England. He later married Mary Ann (Peterson) Neice on August 16, 1985, in Alexis and she passed away on April 21, 2010.
Following his military service, Ed farmed with his family and also worked at Butler Manufacturing. He later worked as a truck driver for Munson Transportation, Case IH and Barr-Nunn Transportation and finally Williams Nationalease, retiring in 2010.
He was a member of the Coldbrook Christian Church. He was a member of the James Harvey Scott American Legion Post #189 in Alexis where he served in various positions. Ed was very proud of his military service and spending a great deal of time and effort volunteering with veteran causes, particularly the local Honor Guard.
He loved cars, especially his Mustangs, and enjoyed grilling, cooking out and tinkering. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Edward D. (Polly) Terpening of Victoria and Michelle Terpening of Knoxville, Brett (Billie) Neice and Brian (Bobbie) Neice both of Alexis and Jeffrey Neice of Williamsfield, IL; 5 grandchildren; one great-grandson; 2 sisters, Janet (Pete) Drummond of Benld, IL and Marjorie Gray of Galesburg; 2 brothers, Roger (Darcy) Terpening and Jerry (Kathie) Terpening of Abbeville, LA; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and his sister. Marion L. Kuhn
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00-7:00 pm. Friday, September 26, 2025, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth with Military Honors beginning at 6:30 pm at the funeral home. A private family interment will take place at Alexis Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the funeral home to be given to the Monmouth American Legion Honor Guard or the Quad-Cities Honor Flight.
