Eugene Weldon, 80, of Lincoln, formerly of Delong, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Born on November 7, 1944, in Gideon, Missouri. Eugene was the son of Albert and Nora (Moore) Weldon. He was raised and educated in Granite City, IL.
He married Catherine Westfall, on June 6, 1964, in Granite City, IL, and she survives.
Eugene was known for his strong work ethic. Over the years, he farmed in Cameron, IL, owned and operated Weldon Trucking, and after retiring, worked in the dietary department at OSF Hospital in Monmouth, IL.
Outside of work, Eugene enjoyed many hobbies. He loved boating, fishing, hunting with his son, riding motorcycles and horses, and cheering on his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. A lifelong dog lover, he had many loyal pets over the years. He especially cherished family gatherings—nothing made him happier than a good fish fry surrounded by his loved ones. His greatest joy was always his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Catherine; four children: Catherine Jean (Randy) Winston of Williamsville, MO; Michael (Barbara) Weldon of Veedersburg, IN; Vickie (Jeff) Diedrich and Rebecca (Mark) Juilfs, both of Lincoln, IL. He is also survived by his brother Larry Vaughn (Susan) Weldon of Troy, IL; three sisters: Juanita Thurman of Galesburg, IL, Ida Mae (Julian) Cordova of Grand Junction, CO, and Brenda Carole (Jimmy) South of Lepanto, AR; along with 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren—with another on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters.
