Hazel O. (Walther) Murphy

Hazel O. “Tidsy” Murphy, 89, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 2:35 am, Friday, June 22, 2018 at her home.

Hazel was born August 29, 1928 In Champaign, IL, the daughter of Henry and Hazel (Farrington) Walther.  She was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1946.

She married James “Ollie” Murphy on December 20, 1946 in Monmouth and he preceded her in death on July 2, 2012.

Hazel first worked at Western Stoneware in Monmouth; she then worked at Formfit, Smolers, and Barnes Grocery Store.  Hazel later owned and operated The Children’s Exchange for several years in Monmouth.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and volunteering at Teddy Bear Child Development Center.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Diana (Dan) Walker of Albia, IA and Denise (Gary) Pullen of Monmouth; grandchildren, Ian (Tina) Walker of Eddyville, IA, Rachel (Ed) Corpus of West Des Moines, IL, Catrina Pullen of Monmouth, Drew Pullen of Monmouth and Whitney (Seth) Eberhardt of Mediapolis, IA and ten great grandchildren.  Also surviving is one sister, Margaret Tubbs of Bonney Lake, WA; special friend, Tiera Stone of Galesburg, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Betty Ann Nichols.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 25, 2018, at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at McGuire and Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Memorials may be given to Teddy Bear Child Development Center or Guardian Angels Humane Society.
