Jack Miller

April 3, 1922 — February 5, 2013

Jack S. Miller, age 90, of Monmouth, passed away at 6:26 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth.

He was born April 3, 1922 in Monmouth, IL. the son of Ferna S. and Emma P. (Hall) Miller. He was raised and educated in Monmouth graduating from Monmouth High School in 1940.

Jack served with United States Army during World War II with the 714th R.R. Operations Battalion in Anchorage AK from 1942-1945 reaching the rank of Tec/4 Sergeant.

Jack married Rebecca J. Damewood at the Monmouth Methodist Church on Nov. 27, 1949 and she survives.

Jack worked for the M & St.L. and Chicago Northwestern Railroads as an Engineer for 42 years before retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, camping, flowers and trips to Minnesota. He truly loved being able to attend all of the sporting and school events of his grandsons; football, basketball, golf, baseball, swimming and all their musical events. He especially enjoyed all the fun family gatherings over the years.

He was a member of the Monmouth American Legion Post #136, Monmouth V.F.W Post #2301, Oquawka Eagles Club, local chairman of the M & St.L., The United Transportation Union Local #0017 for 70 years and a charter member of the Williboc Boat Club in Oquawka

Survivors include his wife; son, J. Kenneth (Teresa) Miller; daughter, Sherrie P. Creighton both of Monmouth; grandsons, Jacob (Elizabeth) Miller of Galesburg, Joseph (Rae) Miller of Monmouth, Jess Miller of Savoy, IL, Shane Creighton of Monmouth; great grandson, Eli J. Miller of Monmouth; great granddaughter, Camdyn Miller of Galesburg; sisters in laws, Elizabeth Armstrong of Evans, CO and Shirley Damewood of Monmouth; brother in law, John Barry of FL; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Justin E. Creighton; sister, Ruth D. Fogarty; sister in law, Rocelia Barry; brothers in law, Richard Armstrong and Donald Damewood.

Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Sat. Feb. 16, 2013 at the Little Cedar Church, Little York with Pastor David Dutton officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Friends may call Saturday morning at the Little Cedar Church where his family will be present from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the services. Memorials may be given to the Justin E. Creighton Scholarship fund, Williboc Boat Club or the Monmouth Ecumenical Singers. Arrangements by McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, 309-734-6008.
