James R. Gaskill

James R. Gaskill, age 46, of Monmouth, passed away at 2:20 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Swansea, Ill.

He was born Sept. 26, 1966 in Monmouth, IL the son of Betty May (Killip) Elliott and James Robert (Marcia) Gaskill. He was raised and educated in Warren County, graduating from Yorkwood High School in 1984. He later received his CDL training.

Jamie married Eva Ponder and later Kristen Lundeen.

Jamie was a professional photographer following high school working at Olan Mills and National Studios. Following his CDL training in 1995 he became a self-employed over the road driver.

Jamie was a tinkerer, car enthusiast, NASCAR fan and was very good at pin striping. He's a happy loving person, a good friend who was always available when asked and a great son.

Survivors include his children, Jeff Gaskill, Koleece Gaskill and Ty Gaskill; his parents, Betty Elliott and James R. (Marcia) Gaskill: step-children, Hannah (Josh) Lewis, Sarah Ponder and Aaron Ponder all of Monmouth, Jessica Smiley and Megan Carter of Kewanee, IL; grandchildren, Gabriel Gaskill, Sarabeth Gaskill, Aurora Morath, Jasmine Ewald and Jayclen Gibbs; sister Laura Cooper (Marvin) of Monmouth, and step-sister, Kim (Steve) Spence of Monmouth.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Shannon Gaskill; step-son, Seth Ponder along with his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Graveside services will be 3:45 P.M. Friday, May 17, 2013 at Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, IL. Visitation will be Friday at the First Christian Church, Monmouth where his family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 P.M. The James R. Gaskill Memorial Fund has been established to benefit his son Ty Gaskill. Arrangements are being handled by McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, 309-734-6008.
