In Loving Memory of Jeff Thomas

Jeff Thomas of Monmouth, Illinois, completed his Long and Winding Road on July 31, 2026 surrounded by the love of family, friends, and a lifetime of cherished memories. He was born February 23, 1962, the son of Gene and Marge (Casteel) Thomas. He was a graduate of Southern High School, class of 1980. Jeff lived a life defined by kindness, loyalty, humor, and an appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

For Jeff, The Beatles were more than a favorite band; they were the soundtrack of his life. Their music accompanied countless days in his garage, afternoons spent watching sports, family cookouts, and quiet moments of reflection. Friends and family can picture him reminiscing about Yesterday, finding hope in Here Comes the Sun, and carrying the spirit of their music with him wherever he went.

Jeff dedicated part of his career to serving students as a paraprofessional with the Knox-Warren Special Education District. He took pride in helping others and made a difference through his patience, compassion, and willingness to lend a hand. His final position was at United High School, where he enjoyed working with students with special needs and supporting their growth and success. His caring nature and genuine interest in people reflected the values that guided his life both at work and at home. He was also an ordained minister with the Universal Life Church.

A devoted sports fan, Jeff rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on Oklahoma football, the San Francisco 49ers, or the Chicago White Sox. Whether celebrating a big win or enduring a tough season, his loyalty never wavered. When the games were over, he could often be found in his garage, happily tinkering with projects and enjoying time in his own corner of the world.

Above all, Jeff treasured his family. He shared a loving partnership with Cathy Betar, whose companionship brought him great happiness and countless special memories. Together they enjoyed the everyday moments that make life meaningful.

Jeff was a proud father to Ashley Ross (Nathan) and a devoted stepfather to Shawn Betar (Krysta). Nothing brought him more joy than gathering with family, firing up the grill,

watching a game, sharing laughter, or simply spending quality time together. His greatest role, however, was that of Grandpa.

His beloved granddaughters, Clare and Audrey, were the light of his life. Their smiles could brighten any day, and the time he spent with them was among his most treasured. From family gatherings to everyday visits, Jeff embraced every opportunity to be part of their lives. They gave him endless reasons to believe that All You Need Is Love.

Jeff lived with an appreciation for the things that mattered most: family, friendship, music, sports, and making memories with those he loved. He embodied the spirit of With a Little Help from My Friends, building lasting connections wherever he went and leaving an impact that will not be forgotten.

Although his family wishes they could spend Eight Days a Week with him once more, they find comfort in knowing that his love remains Here, There and Everywhere. While his journey may have reached The End, his legacy lives on through the family he adored, the lives he touched, and the memories he created.

Jeff is also survived by his siblings Constance A. (David) Doty, Barbara (Gene) Simmons, Charles (Janet) Thomas, brother-in-law Tim Raymond, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jackie Raymond.

As we remember Jeff, we celebrate a man who found joy in the simple moments, value in hard work, comfort in music, and happiness in the company of those he loved. His memory will forever remain in our hearts. A happy hour to honor Jeff’s life will be held 4pm-6pm this Sunday, 8/2/26 at Avery’s Pub, 83 Public Sq., Monmouth, IL. Memorials may be given to the Jeff Thomas Memorial Fund and sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
