Jerry L. Brock

Jerry L. Brock, 86, of Monmouth, IL passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026 at his home.

Jerry was born July 26, 1939, at the Monmouth Hospital, the son of Forest O. “Bud” and Maude (Hewitt) Brock. In his early years he lived in Seaton, IL, later moving to Monmouth, where he finished grade school and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1957. He later attended Monmouth College.

Jerry married the love of his life Martha L. Ross on June 17, 1961, in Monmouth. Together they raise two children. He would go on to be the proud Grandpa of eight and great-grandpa of five.

Jerry worked for the City of Monmouth Street Department and would later retire as Sexton of the Monmouth Cemetery. He enjoyed his work and all the friends he made but his family was his greatest joy. Every Monday he looked forward to his phone chats with his cousin Carol Ann Bowman. If he wasn’t telling you a joke to make you smile, he was singing. Whether it was his favorite Church hymn or Elvis Presley you better believe he knew every word.

In 2016 he watched his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs, win the World Series but if you asked, he would tell you having his grandson Briar with him was what made it so special. He loved all his grandchildren and would brag about them every chance he could. He was able to join his grandkids for a few trips to his favorite place, Estes Park, CO, pretty sure it is now one of their favorite places, and they will fondly remember being there with him.

A few words Jerry would always say to anyone he would meet, “Be proud you’re an American, Be proud that the country you live in is the home of the free and the brave. Be proud of your family, be proud of what you’ve accomplished in your life and most of all be proud of yourself”.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Martha Brock; his daughter, Salinda R. (Douglas) Shinn; his grandchildren, Briar (Jacquelyn) Shinn, Zoe (Ethan) Roberts, Emma Shinn, Grace Shinn, Leah Shinn, Liam Shinn, Bryce Brock and Jacob (Christina) Brock; five great grandchildren, cousins along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dale Lee Brock; and his sister, Mary Lou (Brock) Anderson.

Love you to the moon and back...

Love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck…

Cremation has been accorded. No services are planned at this time. Memorials may be given to the Jerry L. Brock Memorial Fund and sent to the funeral home.
