John M. Adair, 72, of Oquawka, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at his home.

He was born on May 16, 1953 in Burlington, IA, the son of Dale and Dorothy “Dotty” (Rappenecker) Adair. John was raised and educated in Henderson County and graduated from Union High School in 1971.

John married Sally Kinkaid on June 20, 1976 in Monmouth, IL, they had a double wedding with Sally’s sister, Susan and her husband, Pat.

John dedicated over 35 years of his career to Independent Refrigeration and Heating in Monmouth, working faithfully for John Wilson until his retirement. A true outdoorsman at heart, he found great joy in spending time at the family farm, where he loved tinkering with his tractor and exploring the countryside with his family. Some of his favorite moments were shared on side-by-side rides with close friends, Pat McKeown and Tommy Boock. John also had a deep passion for mushroom hunting, deer hunting, and fishing; activities that brought him great joy.

Surviving John is his wife, Sally Adair of Oquawka, IL; his daughter, Lesley (Jeff) John of Oquawka, IL; his grandchildren, Kaylee & Konner John of Oquawka, IL; sister, Kathy (Dave) Unsworth of Alexis, IL; Sisters-in-law, Susan “Suz” (Pat) McKeown of Oquawka, IL, Linda (Thomas) Clapp of Micco, FL; brother-in-law, Lee (Sheila) Kinkaid of Bremen, GA; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved goldendoodle, Bella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Tom Adair.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Interment of his ashes will be in Rozetta Cemetery, Rozetta, IL. Memorials can be made to Rozetta Baptist Church and can be sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
