John S McGuire

John S. McGuire, 73, of Alexis, IL died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home.

He was born on September 13, 1943 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Joseph Bernard and Duane E. (Anderson) McGuire. John was raised and educated in the Monmouth area and graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1960. He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1963-1969.

John worked for over 20 years at Henry C. Hill Correctional Center as a Corrections Officer. He attended Coldbrook Christian Church. John enjoyed working on the farm for many years, and liked working with horses.

Surviving John are his children; JP (Amy) McGuire of Malta, IL, Jamie (Jennifer) McGuire of Galesburg, IL, Jill (Scott) McClintock of Monmouth, IL, and Justin McGuire of Monmouth, IL. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Cooper McGuire, Lucas McGuire, Brayden McGuire, Brody McGuire, Mira McClintock; one sister, Patricia Sharp of Linwood, WA, two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dale McGuire and one sister, Dorothy McGuire.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be in Biggsville Cemetery, Biggsville, IL at a later date. Memorials can be made to Coldbrook Christian Church. McGuire and Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
