Joyce W. Anderson

Joyce W. Anderson, 92, of Monmouth, IL passed away peacefully at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Monmouth Nursing Home.

Joyce was born on April 16, 1925 at home in Prophetstown, IL to William and Hazel Franks. She married Max V. Anderson on May 23, 1948 in Prophetstown, IL. He survives.

Surviving are her four children, Rick (Debbie) Anderson of Monmouth, IL; Cindy (Ralph) Schoen of Peoria, IL; Jill (Oscar) Krieger of Mokena, IL; Tamara Einfeldt of Silvis, IL; eight grandchildren, one step grandchild; five great grandchildren; two sisters Fae (Milt) Davis of Naples, FL; Lois (Ralph) Black of Hillsdale, IL; and one brother, Loren “Buzz” (Rita) Franks of Erie, IL; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Darrell Franks, and six sisters, Fern (Robert) Fuller, Maxine (Archie) McKibbon, Vera (Burt) Hanson, Dorothy (Robert) Thomas, Esther (Donald) Bartels, Rae Franks and daughter Tammy’s fiancé, Ramiro Lueje.

She graduated from Erie High School in 1943. During World War II she worked at John Deere helping out in the war effort. After the war she attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and then taught in Portland Township one room school (Grades 1-8) in Whiteside County, IL. She also worked part-time as a waitress in Erie, IL where she met her husband when he was in town for a Rural Youth basketball tournament.

After their marriage she moved to Princeton, IL to live with her husband on the family farm. She was active in the Mission Covenant Church, the schools where her children attended and her husband was a school board member, and also a member of several community groups. She was very close with their farm neighbors, including coffee get-togethers, carpooling, card clubs, and making Christmas candies.

Joyce moved to Monmouth, IL in 1966 when her husband took a job with Agar Packing Co. as the head hog buyer. She became active in the Monmouth community, church, and Warren school. She went to work briefly for Formfit-Rogers and then worked at Monmouth Community Hospital as a ward clerk until she retired in 1990.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth where she served on the Church Board and belonged to the Deborah Circle and the Women’s Monday Fellowship Breakfast.

Joyce will be remembered as the heart of the family. Her beautiful spirit now warms the stars in heaven, as in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the McGuire & Davies Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL with visitation from 1:00-3:00 pm. Cremation rites will be conducted following the services. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church or Strom Center, both in Monmouth, IL.
