Julie A. (Cahill) McVey

Monmouth

Julie A. McVey, 37, of Monmouth, passed away at 11:14 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2018 at her home.

She was born on July 13, 1981 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Jim and Gail (McCoski) Cahill.  Julie graduated from R.O.W.V.A. High School in 1999.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in education from Monmouth College, graduating in 2005.  Julie then earned her Master’s Degree in reading from Western Illinois University in 2010.

Julie married Michael McVey on June 13, 2009 in Monmouth, he survives.

Julie first taught at Costa Catholic School in Galesburg, she then taught at Lincoln School in Macomb.  She most recently taught at United West Elementary as the RTI Coordinator.  First and Foremost, Julie loved being Lucy’s Mom; becoming a mother was her greatest joy.  She was an accomplished teacher who was loved by her students and fellow teachers.  In College, Julie was a member of Alpha Xi Delta and became an advisor later.  Julie had numerous interests and hobbies and was very active in her Community.  She served on the Warren County United Way Board of Director’s and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.  Julie never knew a stranger, and was an inspiration to all who knew her.  We will miss her smile, infectious laughter, and positivity.  Her love and care for her family and friends will never be forgotten.

Surviving Julie is her husband, Michael McVey of Monmouth; her daughter, Lucy McVey of Monmouth; her parents, Jim and Gail Cahill of Galesburg, IL, two sisters, Jenn (Keith) Kulow of Iowa Falls, IA, Jaclyn (Seth) Shallenberger of Little York, IL; grandfather, Fred McCoski of Galesburg, IL; sister in law, Meghan (Brad) Schroeder of Dekalb, IL; father and mother  in law, Phil and Andrea McVey of Monmouth; two nieces, Dolcey Kulow, Kate Schroeder; and two nephews, Braden and Rylan Schroeder.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bernice McCoski, Nancy McCoski, Martin Cahill, and Katie Cahill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth.  Interment will be in Oneida Cemetery, Oneida, IL.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, with a Rosary service beginning at 4:00 p.m.  Memorials can be made to Lucy’s Education Fund or to the Julie McVey Reading Memorial.
