Marietta M. Vickroy, 100, of Monmouth, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, September 7, 2026 at the Henderson County Retirement Center, Stronghurst, IL
Marietta was born the 9th of 10 children to Mary (De Causemaker) and Jacob Van Opdorp in Atkinson, IL on May 30, 1926. She attended a one room school house in rural Atkinson through 5th grade. She then attended St. Anthony’s Grade School and graduated from Atkinson High School in 1944.
Upon graduation she worked for John Deere Harvester in East Moline, IL as an Inside Shipping Clerk. She married Clarence Vickroy of Geneseo, IL on Feb. 4, 1950 and he passed away on May 9, 2007. They resided in Geneseo until 1956 when they relocated their young family to Monmouth to open Vickroy Furniture which is still a family operation some 70 years later.
Marietta was a homemaker and devoted mother to her 5 children. In 1980 she became full time secretary, treasurer as well as sales person at Vickroy’s where she worked well into her 90’s. She and Clarence enjoyed traveling in later years and could often both be found golfing at Monmouth Country Club.
Marietta was a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
Her home was the site of memorable family holidays and events. Family was everything to Marietta.
She is survived by Debra (Tony) Fritzel of Galena, IL, Randall Vickroy of Aurora, CO, Richard (Julie) Vickroy of Monmouth, Dawn (Steve) Schisler of Monmouth, and Rod (Rebecca Moy) Vickroy of Niles, MI, Kim Vickroy of Phoenix, AZ; 9 Grand Children, Jason Fritzel, Amanda Del Valle, Tess Raschert, Cullen Vickroy, Melissa Wilmer, Jacob Schisler, Jordan Schisler, Jack Vickroy, and Julian Vickroy: 6 Great Grand Children. Luke Del Valle, Logan Del Valle, Amelie Fritzel, Addison Wilmer, August Wilmer, and Leo Schisler; many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 9 siblings.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth. Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, with a Rosary Service beginning at 5:00 pm. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception School and sent to the funeral home.
