Mary F. Millar, 95, of Rozetta, IL, passed away at 7:33 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo, IL.

She was born July 27, 1923 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Andrew and Laura (Neilsen) Bertelsen.  Mary was raised and educated in Little York and graduated from Little York High School in 1940.  She later graduated from the Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb, IL in 1942.

Mary was a Sargent in the United States Marine Corps serving as a Link Trainer Instructor from August of 1943 to December of 1945.

She married James William “Bill” Millar in Monmouth, IL on February 8, 1947, they lived and farmed in Rozetta Township from 1947-2007.  He preceded her in death on July 4, 2007.

Mary was a farm wife and a school teacher for the Union and Yorkwood School Districts.  She enjoyed reading, poetry, and all of God’s creations in nature.  Mary was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth and later the Rozetta Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, John W. (Bev) Millar of Monmouth, IL and Michael L. (Barb) Millar of Aledo. IL; 7 grandchildren, Michele (Cory) Bizarri of Monmouth, Tamara (Greg) Keal of Olathe, KS, John R.W. (Trisha) Millar of Galesburg, IL, Jennifer (Cliff) Anderson of Alexis, IL, Amy (Neil) Ariano of Geneseo, IL, Laurie (Mike) Hurley of West Linn, OR, William (Angie) Millar of Aledo, IL; 17 great grandchildren, Nathan Bizarri, Courtney Bizarri, Patrick Grey, Hannah Grey, Lexie Millar, Kira Anderson, Ky Ariano, Kade Ariano, Kamden Ariano, Keaton Ariano, Thomas Hurley, Cooper Hurley, Millar Hurley, Lyra Hurley, Emalyn Millar, Delaney Millar, and Knox Millar.  Also surviving is two sisters, Betty Ballard of Little York, IL, Martha Marklevitz of Grand Rapids, MI, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; her son, Dan Millar; daughter-in-law, Ann Millar; three brothers, Orville Bertelsen, Donald Bertelsen, John Bertelsen; and one sister, Helen Richey.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Interment will be in Rozetta Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, November 5, 2018 at the funeral home.  Memorials can be made Rozetta Baptist Church or Warren Achievement.
