Myron M. Simpson, known for his quick wit, unforgettable stories, and unmistakable auctioneer’s call, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on March 24, 2026, in Galesburg, IL, at the age of 79.
Born July 7, 1946, in Monmouth, IL, Myron was the son of Louis and Anita Simpson. He grew up in the Norwood area, attended Seaton and Alexis schools, and graduated from Alexis High School in 1964. He went on to farm and later pursued his passion by completing Reisch Auctioneer School in Mason City, IA, in 1965.
Myron and his father built Simpson’s Auction Service into a beloved local tradition. Along with his “Brother Dave” they spent years calling auctions that brought together communities from near and far. After his father retired, Myron and his wife continued the business until Myron’s retirement in 1999. Whether selling antiques, farmland, or household treasures, Myron’s voice, humor, and energy made every auction day memorable.
Myron married the love of his life, Dale Anne (Smith) Simpson on October 18, 1992 in Alexis, IL. They had 28 fun and fabulous years together. Their marriage was filled with laughter, playful nicknames, and a deep friendship that inspired everyone who knew them.
In 1999, they moved to Florida and spent years at Horseshoe Cove in Bradenton, where they met some of the kindest, most caring, and nicest people they ever known and those extremely special friendships have remained over the years. After Dale Anne’s passing in 2020, Myron returned to Galesburg to be closer to family.
Myron was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a way of turning any moment into a story worth telling and telling it well. He loved fishing, watching the crops grow, spending time with his dogs, and, most of all, making people laugh.
He is survived by his children: Jerry Clark of Springfield, IL; Lori (Dusty) Creighton of Morton, IL; Steve Clark (Jede) of Los Angeles, CA; Casey Simpson of Topeka, KS; and Andy (Linda) Simpson of Knoxville, IL; one grandson, Nash (Gissella) Creighton of Montgomery, TX; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Gianna Creighton; one sister, Judy Calhoun of Macomb, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dale Anne; his parents; his brother David (Gennie) Simpson; his sister Cindy (Mark) Nieman; and his brother-in-law Jim Calhoun.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Alexis Cemetery, Alexis IL. Services will be recorded and shared for those who are not able to attend on the funeral home's website. A celebration of life will follow at the Alexis Presbyterian Church, where family and friends are invited to share stories, laughter, and memories, just as Myron would have wanted. Memorials may be made to the North Henderson Fire Department and can be sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
