It is with profound sadness that we announce local aviator, Neil Douglas Reith, of Monmouth, IL, has flown west to clearer skies. He departed this life on June 1st, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born June 28, 1946, in Canton, Illinois, a beloved son of the late Norma (Dahl) Reith Pierce, the late Clinton Reith, and his step-father, the late Homer “Don” Pierce.
Neil was a kind-hearted, thoughtful, generous person and a natural conversationalist. He was strongly grounded in his faith, a shepherd to many and a disciple of one. Enamored by anything with an engine, wheels, or wings, he was an expert enthusiast. His family and friends wish him blue skies and tailwinds in his journey onward. His jovial personality, creativity, and wit will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his former spouse, Susan Hammer; daughter, Laurie Reith; son, Seth Reith; daughter-in-law, Jacqui Reith; six grandchildren, Tabitha, Trenton, Gabriel, Noah, Anne, Kelsey; sister, Linda Davis; sister-in-law, Sarahann Reith; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Clinton Reith; brother, Ronald Reith; and sister, Diane Neal.
A celebration of life will be from 11:00-1:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2026 at Highpoint Church (206 North Sunny Lane, Monmouth, IL 61462). To honor Neil’s lifelong faith and devotion, the family welcomes floral tributes or memorial donations to Monmouth Highpoint Church in his memory. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
