Richard P Bishop

Richard P. Bishop, 94, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 10:59 am, Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

He was born March 19, 1924 in Monmouth, Il the son of William J and Mary Elizabeth (Pearson) Bishop.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, attending Monmouth High School.

Dick served with the Conservation Corps 1660th Co., Quincy, Il from April to September in 1941.  He later served with the United States Navy during WWII from 1941-1945.

Dick married Jean B. Housman in Alexis, IL on August 10, 1946 and she passed away on October 8, 2012.

Dick was an electrician working for George Themanson and later as part owner of C & D Electric.  He later worked for Gale Products in Galesburg for 29 years.

He was a member of the Heritage United Presbyterian Church and later the Heritage Bible Church, where he served as a very active member and Trustee.  He also spent countless hours working on projects around the church.  He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, painting, playing church league softball in his young years and meeting friends at the local coffee shop.  He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include his 4 daughters, Regina (Kregg) Swanson of Noblesville, IN, Sheila (Mike) Nelson of Viola, IL, Marcia (Mark) Noles of Little York, IL and Leiane (Rich) Bertelsen of Monmouth, IL; 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; his sister, Doris Reigel of Racine, WI; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, William Bishop, Robert Bishop, Eugene Bishop and Frank Bishop; 3 sisters, Lorraine Crowe, Mary Kay Lindsey and Marjory Greer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Heritage Bible Church, Monmouth.  Interment with Military Honors will be at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 at the Church.  Memorials may be given to the Heritage Bible Church. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
