Shirley M. Brown, 78, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth, IL

She was born on April 28, 1939 in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Axel and Ada (Monore) Peterson. Shirley was raised and educated in the Kewanee and Galesburg area.

Shirley was a homemaker and worked as a CNA at Monmouth Nursing Home for over 20 years. She enjoyed working outside in the yard, crocheting and quilting.

Surviving Shirley are her sons; John William Brown of Monmouth, IL, Chester L. Brown of Texas, Fred B. (Toni) Brown of Monmouth, IL; one daughter, Vicki (Nick) Christner of Iowa; seven grandchildren, Matthew Miller of Tennessee, Heather Brown of Iowa, Stephanie Brown of Monmouth, IL, Ashley Brown of Iowa, John Brown of Iowa, Amanda Gregory of Monmouth, IL, Shannon Caldwell of Macomb, IL and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Ronald Lee Brown, two brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Shirley M. Brown Memorial Fund.
