Susanna “Susy” Day Condon, 89, of Monmouth, IL, formerly of Chicago Heights, IL, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth, IL.

Mrs. Condon was born on the family farm in Melvin, IL, on February 8, 1928, to Herschel Abram and Nellie (Carnegie) Day. Mrs. Condon was the seventh of ten children. She was educated in a one room school house, later graduating from Gilman High School in 1945. She attended Eastern Illinois University. On January 15, 1950, she married Charles S. Condon, Jr. in Champaign, IL. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1973.

Mrs. Condon was generous, kind, and hardworking. A homemaker most of her married life, she entered the workforce in 1969. For the next 40 years she served students, faculty and staff of School District 206 in Chicago Heights as the secretary to five consecutive Bloom Trail High School Principals. She retired at age 81. Her boundless energy, sense of humor and optimistic outlook served her well throughout her life. A role model to all who knew her, she faced life’s many challenges with remarkable strength, dignity and grace. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and colleague.

Her pride and joy were her grandchildren to whom she was devoted.

A life-long Cubs fan and avid sports enthusiast, Mrs. Condon found joy in the Cubs winning a World Series during her a lifetime. She began following the Cubs in the 1930s when, along with her father, she would listen to their games on a radio affixed to a tractor battery. She was also a great fan of the Chicago Bulls and enjoyed sharing her love of the Cubs and the Bulls with all who knew her.

Mrs. Condon was preceded in death by her parents, husband, beloved daughter, Jan Condon Nehf, sisters Ferne Cutforth, Eunice Eighner, brothers LaVerne, Raymond, James, Clarence, Bradley, and Donald.

Surviving are her daughter, Jacquelyn Condon Heerwagen and son-in-law Neal Heerwagen of Monmouth, granddaughters, Anna Heerwagen and Lydia Heerwagen of Chicago, IL, son-in-law Robert R. Nehf of Chicago Heights, granddaughter Sydney Nehf of Homewood, IL, grandson Robert C. Nehf of Chicago Heights, brother Robert E. (Gail) Day of Duluth, MN, sisters-in-law Bonnie Day of Tucson, AZ, Judy Day of Dixon, IL, and Darlene Day of Marengo, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
