Thomas E. Nees

Thomas E. Nees, 71, of Monmouth, IL died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at his home.

Tom was born May 8, 1945 in Charleston, IL the son of William Rufus and Martha Elizabeth (Walker) Nees. He attended Monmouth and Yorkwood Schools.

Tom was a Private First Class with the United States Army serving in Panama.

Tom married Cindy S. Young on August 3, 1973 in Monmouth and she survives.

He had a long career, over 25 years, with the City of Monmouth and then Environmental Management before retiring in 2006. After retiring he had 10 great years of spending time with his family and friends.

Following his retirement, Tom enjoyed playing dice, cards, playing pool every week and on warm days he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy; 3 daughters, Lisa (Larry) Willett of Monmouth, Bobbi (Chad Deakin) Nees of Monmouth, and Sara (Jason Carlson) Nees of Viola, IL; his grandchildren, Mirika Hornke, Nicholas Hornke, Alec Klingler, Bryce Willett, Dalton Willett, Rhett Willett, Derek Nees, Sophia Carlson and Jacob Carlson; great grandchildren, Aiden, Mason and Madilynn; and his sister, Sally Johnson of Rantoul, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly Nees; his sister, Linda Lee Fye and lifelong friend, Keith Henry.

Tom’s family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Frank Lasala for his outstanding care, friendship and compassion during Tom’s illness.
