Obituary

 

Carol M. Whiteside, 75, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 11:03 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at her home. 

She was born on June 14, 1945 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Robert and Ferne (Butler) Smallwood.  Carol was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1963.  

Carol married Don Whiteside, he preceded her in death on August 9, 1996.  

Carol and Don owned and operated Whiteside Market for over 30 years.  She also worked at Monmouth College for many years as a secretary to many Deans and professors.  Carol loved strawberries and cooking for everyone, she didn’t like cooking stinky fish!  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

Surviving Carol are her children, Mike Whiteside of Roseville, IL, Shelley (Ron) Bishop of Monmouth, IL; honorary daughter, Angela Weir Hugel of Chicago, IL; her grandchildren, Alena Whiteside of Pittsburg, PA, Brandon (Desiree’) Bishop of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Heather (Dylan) Judd of Lomax, IL, Pieper Bishop of Monmouth, IL, Caleb Whiteside of Crystal Lake, IL; honorary granddaughter, Cheyenne Carver; great grandchildren, Alayna Bishop Pence, Kullan, Kaiden, Kollins, Elliott Judd; her grand dog, Noel; brothers-in-law, Steve Whiteside, Merle Whiteside, William Whiteside, Roy Dober; sister-in-law, Roberta Stone; and several cousins.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Don Whiteside. 

Graveside Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, IL.  In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Pay It Forward Ministries/Food Pantry, Monmouth, IL.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
