Linus C. Thornton, 83, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 6:15 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Roseville Rehab and Health Care, Roseville, IL.

He was born on October 7, 1936 in Monmouth, IL, the son of L.C. and Clara (Garret) Thornton.  Linus was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1954.  He then attended the DuPont School for Safety and later did a correspondence school for Accounting.

Linus married Dorothy Brock on September 19, 1958 at the First Christian Church in Monmouth, they have been married for 61 years; she survives.

Linus worked as an accountant at OMC/Gales Products for 27 ½ years.  He then worked as the Safety Director at Wilson Foods in Monmouth for 5 years, retiring in 1999.  Linus enjoyed making wood items and knives.  He was faithful in studying God’s word and the Bible.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Thornton of Monmouth, IL; one daughter, Robin K. Thornton-Cooper of Monmouth, IL; three grandchildren, Jaylene Cooper, Shane Cooper, Douglas (Megan) Thornton; three great grandchildren, Adison Thornton, Cooper Thornton, Quinnten Giedley; one sister, Cheryl George of Indiana; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Roderick Edward Thornton, four brothers, and three sisters.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services.  Memorials can be made to the Heritage Bible Church or the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements .  .
