Obituary

Lloyd V. “Babe” Johnson, 79, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 5:50 am, Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at the Marigold Rehab & Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL.

Lloyd was born May 4, 1942 in Monmouth, IL the son of Delbert Grover & Dorothy (Lewis) Johnson.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, IL, graduating from Monmouth High School. He later attended Carl Sandburg College and then graduated with a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Education from Western Illinois University.

Lloyd served with the United States Air Force and later with the United States Army  both times stationed in Vietnam.

Following his return home Lloyd was a substitute teacher in the Monmouth and Galesburg school districts.  He was a special education teacher in DeKalb, IL for several years before retiring in 2004. He worked for a brief time at Western Stoneware before going to school.

Lloyd attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth, IL

Survivors include his sister, Val (Jan) Holeman of Monmouth, IL; several nieces and nephews along with 2 sisters in law.

He was preceded in death by his parents;1 sister, Germaine Haynes; 4 brothers, Doyle Lewis, Robert Carson, Delbert Johnson and Gary Johnson.

Cremation has been accorded.  No visitation or services are planned.  A private family interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth, IL will take place at a later date.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
