Matthew A. Copeland

Matthew A. “Matt” Copeland, 44, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 12:47 pm, Thursday, January 13, 2022, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth, Il.

Matt was born June 23, 1977, in Galesburg, IL the son of Ronald L. and Rosemary (McCombs) Copeland.  He was raised and educated in Galesburg and Kirkwood, IL, graduating from Yorkwood High School in 1996.

Matt worked at Monmouth College as a chef for 5 years.  He later worked at Farmland, Wells Pet Food, Shears in West Burlington, IA and most recently with Hirschbach Transportation in Monmouth in the livestock washout area.

Matt loved Demo car figure 8 races, working on cars and spending time with his dogs, He also loved spending time with his many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his mother, Rosemary (Michael) Edle of Danville, IA; his siblings, Michael Copeland of Monmouth, IL and Michelle (James) Wilson of Kirkwood, IL, and Chad Copeland of Galesburg, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; his stepmother, Terri Copeland of Monmouth and her 3 daughters.

He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, his father and his uncle, Rick Copeland.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Cremation will take place following the gathering.  A private family interment will take place at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg, IL at a later date.
