Shirley J (Boughton) Coleman

Shirley Coleman, 90, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Serenity of Lake Storey in Galesburg.

Shirley was born on July 5, 1930 in Gladstone, Illinois, the daughter of Russell and Zola (Kessinger) Boughton. She was raised and educated in the Biggsville area.

She married Dale Coleman on January 29, 1949 in Missouri and he preceded her in death July 26, 2017.

Shirley loved the outdoors and camping with Dale. She also enjoyed playing cards, specifically cribbage, pitch and 9-hole golf. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving Shirley are her children; LaQuita Coleman Jones of Monmouth, Lynn (Sandi) Coleman of Kokomo, IN, Rhonda Coleman Munson of Bourbonnais, IL, Randall (Laura) Coleman of Tomball, TX; one sister, Sandra Kay Boughton McMeekan of Aledo, IL.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Louise K. Boughton Warnock, Edward (Sonny) Boughton, LaQuita Joy Boughton and grandchildren, Thomas Jones and Annie Carter.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held in the summer of 2021. Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Christian Church Scholarship Fund.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
